October 31, 2006 – 1:00 PM PST
Happy Halloween!

The site's been updated and you can make your picks for Sunday November 5, 2006.

If you've not paid for the pool yet, I'll be looking for you in the next few weeks to get money from you since this is getting close to being over.

October 24, 2006 – 10:00 PM PST
The site has been updated and you can now make your picks for this Sunday October 29.

The rules for the tiebreaker have been decided.

All players who have not been eliminated by week 17 will be invited to participate in a bracket format playoff pool. This first involves picking the winners of the Wild Card round and then for those that are still tied after the Wild Card, picking an 8 team bracket and the Super Bowl winner along with a scoring tie-breaker.

At the start of the playoff pool, all remaining player picks are reset and all playoff teams will be available to all participants, regardless of whether or not you picked a playoff team during the regular season.

Because of the nature of the playoffs, with seed position determining who plays who after the Wild Card round, you will first start with picking the Wild Card round. Everyone will receive one point for each correct game picked and no points for an incorrect pick.

After the Wild Card, if there is still a tie, those remaining will select teams from an 8 team bracket. This bracket will have the following scoring used:

Standard Scoring: Picking the winner of the conference playoff games will get you 1 point. Picking the conference championship winners will net you two points each and picking the winner of the Superbowl will get you four points.

Underdog Bonus Scoring: In the conference playoffs, if you pick an underdog to win and it wins, you will get two points for your pick. In the conference championship, if you pick an underdog to win and it wins, you'll get four points. And in the Super Bowl, if you pick the underdog and it wins, you'll get 8 points.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To get points for Underdog Scoring a player MUST correctly pick a team to win a game as an underdog AND that team must win the game as an underdog.

This will become clear if and when we get to this point.

Any questions, let me know.

Good luck this week!

For example, in last year's playoffs, Pittsburgh was seeded sixth in the AFC and played Cincinnati which was seeded third. If Cincinnati had won that game, they would have gone on to play Denver in the AFC divisional playoff and Indianapolis would have played New England.

October 17, 2006 – 10:00 PM PST
The site has been updated and you can now make your picks for this Sunday October 22.

PLEASE be sure you get your picks in on time!

October 11, 2006 – 11:00 PM PST
The site has been updated and you can now make your picks for this Sunday October 15.

A few guys have already been eliminated - if you haven't paid into the pool (you know who you are) please be sure to do so when you see me next.

I am traveling this week and have limited Internet all week (which is wy this week's note is late), so consider this your first reminder for this week's picks. You'll only get one more on Saturday evening, so be sure to get them in on time.

October 2, 2006 – 11:00 PM PST
The site has been updated and you can now make your picks for this Sunday October 8.

In a few more week's I'll detail the tiebreak procedure we'll use at the end of the season. This will be a winner take all pool so the tiebreaker will consist of playoff and scoring picks.

One other reminder - from now on you'll have to select your name from the drop-down list - no need to reenter your name. Doing so made it appear as if you were starting a new entry. Any questions, let me know.

September 26, 2006 – 11:30 AM PST
The site has been updated and you can now make your picks for this Sunday October 1.

NOTE!

I'll reiterate what I said last week - you *MUST* make your picks by 10AM Pacific to not be counted out for the week! If you are experiencing technical difficulties with the site like some did last week, send the pick in email to nfl@bkane.com so at least I'll have them and I'll enter them into the system manually.

I will do everything I can to make sure the site is updated this time every week so you'll have plenty of time to make your picks but even still, you can ALWAYS email me your picks so you're sure I have them. I don't want anyone to miss out simply because they didn't make a pick.

Also, you do not have to enter your name in every week by hitting the "New" button. Just select your name from the drop-down list and enter your email. That's it - no need to enter "CCMC Referrer" if you're already on the drop-down. Any questions on this, let me know.

If you want email confirmation I received your pick, just send a message to the moderator when entering your pick saying "Email confirm please." I'll send you a note back letting you know I received your pick.

Here are important links you should learn to use:

Every week you'll need to go to the pick entry page to enter that week's picks. Watch the news and your email to see when you have to submit your picks for that week. This week it's Sunday September 17 @ 10AM PDT.

I have now setup a Player Summary page. This page summarizes all picks all players have made each week. You'll need to refer to this page to see what teams you have already picked and can't pick again.

NOTE!

If you let your picks go to the last minute and make a mistake in picking a team you've previously picked, you can immediately reenter your pick and send me a note indicating to ignore the previous pick. Just keep an eye on the clock. The system will boot back picks after the deadline.

The overall results can be found on the Season Standings page. If your pick results deviate more than three from the week number, you'll be indicated as "out."

NOTE!

Even though NFL teams get a bye week, you don't! If you fail to make a pick in a week, that will be counted as a "strike" against you.

All the other reports are fairly meaningless as they are designed to track picks on a weekly basis. Feel free to click around but if something doesn't make sense, don't worry about it. The pages you need to concern yourself with are the ones mentioned above.

September 12, 2006 – 10:00 AM PST
First weekend's games are over. You can now enter next week's picks if you go to the pick entry page. Couple of things to note:

1 - you can select your name from the drop down list HOWEVER you still must enter your email address for your pick to be accepted.

2 - the system will NOT prevent you from picking the same team you picked the previous week. If you forget which team you picked the previous week email me and I will let you know what team you picked.

If you want to see results, go to the season standings page.

Any questions, shoot me an email.

September 4, 2006 – 10:00 PM PST
Welcome to the 2006 GFB NFL Suicide Pool!

If you've never been in an NFL pool or been in a suicide pool, don't worry. Suicide pools are fun and easy for both the novice and expert.

Each entry will cost $20. You can have as many entries as you want. Making picks is easy.

Each week you'll be required to pick the winner of a single game. That's it. No points spread, no favorites or underdogs. Just pick a winner. There are only two conditions to playing each week.

1 - You cannot pick the same team twice in a season. So for example, if you pick the Indianapolis Colts to win in the first week of the season, you cannot pick the Colts the rest of the season

2 - If you pick three losing teams during the season, you're eliminated.

That's it. For detailed rules, see the rules page.

Feel free to forward the link to others you think would be interested in playing. Just know that they need to include your email address when they register. You will be reponsible for their entry fee if they cannot pay the pool organizer directly.

You can go make your first pick on the pick page right now. You'll receive two email reminders each week, one on Tuesday morning and one on Friday morning to enter your pick for the following week. The entry deadline is by 10AM Pacific on Sunday EXCEPT for those weeks where games are played earlier (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, etc. In the Tuesday reminder you will be given the entry deadline for that week and receive the second reminder either Friday morning or 24 hours before the first kickoff that week, whichever occurs first.

Note that for the first week you cannot pick the Miami/Pittsburgh game.

Any questions, send email to nfl@bkane.com. Good luck and have fun!
